Who are the Ithaca Lions?

The Ithaca Lions Club was founded in 1951 as part of Lions Club International and has been a leader in community and international service for many years. The Ithaca Lions Club has provided service to children and adults with eye exams, eye glasses and guide dogs. We also help children with speech, hearing and language impairments.

The Ithaca Lions Club has dedicated 54 years in the Ithaca Community for sight and hearing projects, especially for children. We have joined together with other Lions and Clubs Lioness Club throughout the Finger Lakes in a vision screening program for preschool children.

In May 1995, The Ithaca Lions Club hosted the Russian Children's Choir for an All-American picnic at the Empire Speech and Hearing Clinic Lions Camp Badger and continued this international outreach by co-sponsoring the Malaysian Children's Choir Upstate New York tour in June 1996.

The Ithaca Lions sponsored and assisted the Senior Citizens Council Grandma's Attic Sale in 1995 and 1996.

In the comming year, the Ithaca Lions Club will support Ithaca youth through the Lions International Peasce Poster Contest. Lions-Quest is a school program fro K-12 students teaching self esteem, conflict resolution and self reliance. The Ithaca Lions hope to start a Leo Club this year. Leo Clubs's give young people the opportunity to learn to become tomorrow's leaders and to help out the community they live in. The Ithaca Lions also provide a sollege scholarship to an IHS student each year.

Each year we provide eye galsses and exams for those in need, help count votes on election night, help the Salvation Army man a kettle during their annual Kettle Drive, provide work crews and scholarships for the Empire State Speach and Hearing Clinic.
